A sculptural ring in sterling silver, set with a 16 mm faceted lab created alexandrite.
The stone has an irregular, asymmetric cut. I carved the setting by hand in wax to follow its outline, so the bezel holds the stone exactly. From there the band continues in a deeply textured, organic surface. After carving, the ring was cast in sterling silver using the lost-wax process. The wax model doesn’t survive casting, so this ring cannot be reproduced.
Alexandrite is known for changing colour with the light. This stone shows a cool violet in daylight and a deeper, warmer purple under incandescent light.
